Image Size Explained
Well you probably know by now that Image size is very important on the Web. That's what we're going to explain here, for a quick reference guide or tutorial for people to see how this stuff works.

First let me say that we use Ulead animator, and Photoshop5.0 to compress and make these images.

The number of colors an image is saved in is an important consideration.

The examples below demonstrate 9 different images saved in different amounts of colors that produce different results. So take a look and see if you can get a grip on this image/color thing.

256 colors
256 colors at 8,720 bytes.
128 colors
128 colors at 6,973 bytes.
64 colors
64 colors at 5,579 bytes.
32 colors
32 colors at 4,737 bytes.
16 colors
16 colors at 3,882 bytes.
8 colors
8 colors at 2,953 bytes.

As you can see above, you can't really see a quality change between 256 colors and 32 colors. But, you do save about 4,000 bytes if you go with the 32 color GIF, which will increase the load time for any Web page.

The best way to get it right is to experiment with each image for the best quality and the maximized image size for your Web projects.

Well, I hope this helped, Good Luck!
