Tip #1: Chiseled Edge Button.
Create a new blank document whatever size you want. Then create a new layer and name it body. Select the rectangular marquee tool and create the button's shape. Fill it with any color you want, you should use a medium tone color for this tip (I choose medium gray). Press Ctrl D to deselect your selection.
step1
Now create a new layer and name it shadow. Pick a darker color, you should choose the same tone color for a single button (I choose dark gray). Select the line tool (I choose line width 3 for this example and the anti-aliased box checked). Trace a straight horizontal line the same length than your button's length. To have a straight line just hold shift while you drag your cursor.
step2
Select the polygon lasso tool, click anywhere in your window, hold shift, drag your cursor to have a straight line at a 45 degree angle then finish your triangle.
step3
Place the triangle marquee selection so you cut just the end of your shadow line at a 45 degree angle. Press Ctrl X to cut it.
step4
Now repeat step 4 and 5 for the other side of your shadow line. Just the 45 degree angled line has to be inverted to cut the other side.
step5
Create a new layer and name it highlight. Pick a light color (I choose light gray) and cut it like you cut the shadow line.
step6
For the side shadow and highlight lines, you do not have to cut them. Just click on your body layer to active it and create a new layer, that way the cut lines will be above the uncut lines. you should create a new layer for each line you create.
