Tip #14: 3D Pipes. Updated May 26th, 2000 Below is an cool effect that can be used to make 3D pipes or tubes.
|
Step 3: Fill your selection with a medium dark Grey and deselect (ctrl D).
 Step 3 |
Step 4: Select the line tool. Set the width in the option window from 3 and up. For this example I chose 3. Create a new layer, pick a lighter shade of Grey and trace a short line perpendicular to the tube.
 Step 4 |
Step 5: Duplicate the line layer. Select the Move tool (Shortcut key: V) and move the duplicated line 3 pixels from the main line. To be more precise, use the arrows keys on your keyboard. In order for the line to move the move tool has to be selected. You should have something that looks like the example below.
 Step 5 |
Step 6: Repeat step 5 until the rectangle is entirely covered with lines. A little tip: After you duplicate the line layer four or five times, link them and merge the layers together (ctrl E). Duplicate until it fills the complete pipe. When done merge all the line layers together.
 Step 6 |
 |
Step 7: With layer 2 still selected hold the Ctrl key while you click on layer 1. That way you are still working on layer 2 and have the marquee selection of layer 1. Expand one pixel (Select modify Expand). Inverse the marquee selection (shift ctrl I or Select Inverse), and press delete. Deselect (ctrl D) it.
 Step 7 |
Step 8: Merge layer 1 and 2 together. Apply the inner bevel effect (layer Effect bevel and emboss...).Choose inner bevel effect and the shadows values, for this example I chose depth 8 Blur 10.
 Step 8 |
Please rate this tip below. 1 represents poor and 10 is excellent.
