STEP 1 - Get button
For this tutorial we will use this button from GifArt's members section. First step is to Open PhotoShop.

STEP 2 - Copy the button Right click on the button above in Figure 1 and select copy. MACs will have to click and hold.

STEP 3 - Paste Image in PhotoShop Go to PhotoShop and create a new file (Ctrl - n), Click OK and then paste the button (Ctrl - v).

STEP 4 - Add the text. Now we need to add text to the button. Select the type tool from the tool pallete (Figure 4) and click on the button image you have open. I used Enter for this button.
Type Tip:
When using the text tool you can easily select fonts and see how they look when you have your text selected.
Select your text and the click the font family selection and use the up and down arrow keys or your mouse scroll wheel. You can scroll though the different type of fonts you have installed on your system this way.

STEP 5 - Save your button. Now we need to save it. Select file and then choose Save For Web... (Figure 7).
Then a window will pop (figure 8) up showing how your image will look and how big it will be.
Once you have the settings how you want ( I usually use 32 colors) select OK. You then will be promted with another window. This is where you select the place to save your image.
You can save it any place you want. For good orginization I always place the images in an images folder inside of the main Website folder I'm working on.
