Photoshop 4.0 Tutorials
| Tip #5: The Basics Shapes Tip | | There are 3 basics shapes in Photoshop 4.0. The elliptical shape, the rectangular shape and the triangle. I'll explain in this tip how to use the marquee tool and one feature of the line tool. Plus I'll go over some tips that will give you more control in your work. |
 |
Create a new image the size you want to (I usually use 640x480 pixels, It leaves me lots of room to work with.). Then create a new layer.
Select the marquee tool of your choice ( elliptical shape or rectangular shape.). For this example I choosed the elliptical shape.
Click anywhere in the window and drag until you obtain the size you want to. To make a perfect circle or square just hold shift while dragging
Now just fill it with the color of your choice. To do so just click on edit and fill or you can right-click inside your marquee selection then click fill.

The triangle is a little different from the 2 other shapes. Just select the line tool (the line tool will use the foreground color as the display color.). Once your line tool is selected, go to the line tool option box where you can choose the line width (the triangle size does depend of the line width.) and you can choose the proportions of your triangle by clicking the shape button (for this example I choosed line width 5, shape: width 1000 height 1000 concavity 0.) Make sure the a end arrowhead box is checked.
Now just click any where in your window, drag and hold shift to make your triangle straight
Then select the rectangular shape marquee tool and select the little piece of line coming out of the triangle then press ctrl x or click edit and cut.
